January 22, 2017

Building on the experience of the WSD F10, Casio is back with a new iteration of their outdoor watch. The new CASIO PRO TREK Smart WSD-F20 was announced at CES 2017 and will ship in April 2017 at the price of $500

Targeted at people who enjoy the outdoors, the CASIO PRO TREK Smart WSD-F20 will be powered by Android Wear 2.0. There are a few key differences between the WSD-F20 and its predecessor. For starters, the availability of in built GPS module in the WSD-F20; the F10 tethered unto the GPS of the connected mobile device. Also the WSD-F20 can display the user’s current location on full colour off line maps.

CASIO PRO TREK Smart WSD-F20 features:

  • All day activity tracker
  • GPS, GlONASS and Michibiki compatible (QZSS)
  • Runs Android Wear 2.0
  • Capacitive touchscreen colour and monochrome capable LCD
  • Water resistant to 50m
  • Pressure (air pressure, altitude) sensor, accelerometer, gyrometer, compass (magnetic) sensor
  • Microphone
  • Vibration enabled
  • Bluetooth and Wifi enabled
  • Battery life of more than 1 day for normal use and up to a month in watch mode

The MIL-STD-810 certification probably means the WSD-F20 can take more beating that your regular watch. With Android Wear, we can also expect some forms of smart notifications and installation of watch apps to further augment the usability of the WSD-F20On their part, Casio has included a few unique features which hopefully resonates with the customers and get the WSD-F20 flying off the shelves.

With Casio Moment Link, it is possible to check friend’s location on the map and send messages to everyone. Provided your friends are wearing the WSD-F20 and are on the Casio Moment Link app. This feature works via cellular service and GPS data from the connected mobile device.

The display can also switch between monochrome or colour LCD to conserve battery life. The biggest bugbear here is really the paltry battery life; it necessitates the bringing of a power bank if you intend to be outdoors for more than a day.

The WSD-F20 will be available in orange or black.

      Hi.

It’s officially listed as up to a month in watch mode and more than a day in normal usage. This is from casio WSD-F20’s dedicated site.

Unfortunately casio didn’t reveal the extent usage ; GPS, smart phone usage, maps etc.
