This week, Huawei announced the availability of their upgraded “Band” activity tracker series. There are actually 2 products we’re talking about; the Band 2 and the Band 2 Pro. Based on the specifications, I’d say skip the Band 2 and go for the Band 2 Pro if you’re look for a feature-ful activity tracker.
The Huawei Band 2 Pro is almost a replica of the Huawei Fit watch in terms of features. Huawei’s partnership with FirstBeat continues in this edition of Huawei’s wearable by featuring the former’s algorithm in crunching the VO2 max estimation numbers.
Huawei Band 2 Pro Features:
- All day activity tracker
- All day wrist based heart rate monitoring
- GPS enabled
- VO2 max estimation
- Guided breathing feature
- Track light, deep and REM sleep stages with TruSleep Technology
- Water resistant to 5 ATM
- Compatible with Android and iOS
Huawei has also added all day wrist based heart rate monitoring along with scientific sleep tracking in the Band 2 Pro. Interestingly, Huawei’s proprietary TruSleep teachnology is supposedly capable of tracking light, deep and REM sleep stages. According to Huawei, TruSleep has been validated by Harvard Medical School’s DBIOM and BIDMC teaching hospitals.
With Fitbit peddling their own Sleep Stages, Polar with their Sleep Plus, and Apple buying over Beddit, we can assume it’s a matter of time before more companies announce their proprietary sleep tech.
Besides on board GPS, Huawei has also added guided breathing features which was originally seen in the Apple Watch Series 2 before making its appearance in Fitbit and Garmin devices. The Band 2 Pro will remind the user to practise guided breathing daily.
With a battery life of 21 days and up to 3.5 hours in GPS mode, Huawei has cobbled together a respectable wearable by learning from their competition.
There’s no confirmation on the retail price as yet but according to Huawei’s China online store, the Band 2 Pro is retailing for a mere $388 Yuan or the equivalent of $57. And that’s what’s going to make this wearable a serious contender.
