Late last year the partnership between Misfit Wearables and Speedo saw the release of the Speedo Shine, a pool focused activity tracker. Yesterday Misfit announced their newest tracker the Speedo Shine 2 which features the best of Misfit and Speedo. Essentially the original Speedo Shine augmented with smart notifications. Or literally the Shine 2 upgraded with Speedo Shine’s software.
The Speedo Shine 2 keeps the signature premium make and look we’ve come to associate with the Misfit Shine series.
The vibration enabled activity tracker delivers call and text alerts and provides limited IoT (Internet of Things) compatibility that lets you control your connected devices. Think of taking a picture or remotely turning on Misfit’s Bolt light bulbs by tapping on the Speedo Shine 2, just to name 2.
With the vibration motor in the new Speedo Shine 2, the user may set a workout timer that buzzes you when your countdown is completed. Speedo’s proprietary lap counting algorithms track a swimmer’s lap count with pinpoint accuracy across all stroke types.
Point to note, the Speedo Shine 2 doesn’t count strokes nor stroke types, only laps and distance based on a pre-entered pool length by the user.
The Speedo Shine is water proof to 50m and runs up to 6 months on a single user replaceable coin cell battery.
List of features:
- Tracks steps, distance, calories, sleep
- Automatically identifies active periods during the day
- 12 LED lights for notification and to tell time
- Water Resistant to 50 meters
- Vibration enabled for notifications and alarms
- Smart button IoT capabilities
- Swim lap and distance tracking
- Swim time countdown
- User replaceable coin cell battery that runs up to 6 months
For those of you who’ve just put money down on a dated Misfit Shine 2 or Misfit Ray, fret not. Along with the press announcement for the Misfit Speedo Shine 2, I spotted this paragraph which should put a smile on your faces.
“We’re thrilled to announce a second layer to this launch: If you already own Misfit Shine 2 or Misfit Ray, you can do an in-app upgrade for $9.99, and add this swim tracking and lap counting technology to your current device.” -Misfit Wearables-
The additional software upgrade will apparently be available in July 2016. Misfit Speedo Shine 2 will retail for $119 in Pure (silver colour) starting June 21 at Misfit.com,Speedousa.com and all Apple stores.
