Ever since Nokia bought over Withings last year, things have been very quiet on the wearable front ,until this week. The company announced the availability of 2 new colour variants of their Nokia Steel hybrid smart watch activity tracker series.
The two new colours are Full Black and Rose Gold with the former costing $129.95 and the latter $149.95. Nokia has also provide options for customisation in the form of changeable watch straps to match the Nokia Steel to your attire. Depending on the configuration, the Nokia Steel does look pretty good.
The tracked stats are then synced and stored within the Nokia Health mate mobile app so you can get a detailed picture of your days and nights via clear color-coded graphs. I’ve used a few Withings products previously and found the Health Mate mobile app commendable but the hardware less than impressive.
Nokia Steel Limited Edition features:
- Tracks steps, distance and calories
- Health Mate displays active & metabolic calories
- Automatically detects running, swimming
- Records Sleep; time it takes to fall asleep, duration and sleep cycle
- Bluetooth Low Energy enabled
- Changeable wrist straps
- Water resistant to 5 ATM
- Vibration enabled
- Powered by CR 2025 coin cell battery for 8 months of use
There are tons of such hybrid watches now but Withings was first back then; the Nokia Steel was originally called Withings Steel which retailed back in 2014. There are some minor cosmetic improvements but other than that, the features appear to be identical.
It remains to be seen if this limited edition Nokia Steel watch is sufficient to go toe to toe with the new generation of hybrids.
