About 2 years ago, I chanced upon the Spire stone health tracker and was pretty amazed at the product capabilites; measuring your breathing pattern and detecting periods of stress along with all day activity tracking. Fast forward to 2017, it seems the company has come up with another innovative product – one that eliminates charging altogether and places the wearable in contact with skin discreetly. Meet the new Spire health tags.
While the Spire stone wearable was great, it was difficult to place it anywhere else other than the hip region; it isn’t a big device but can cause some discomfort if you’re trying to belt up.
The health tags on the other hand, are slim, discreet and stick on undergarment easily for both men and women. Attach it to the waist band of your underwear or the wing of any pair of bra and voila, instant “smart”clothing.
Spire Health Tags features:
- All day discreet activity tracking
- Records steps and workouts including swim, sleep quality, HR, HRV, breathing patterns and stress
- Coin cell battery powers wearable for up to 1.5 years
- Scientifically safe to be worn on skin all day
- Washer and dryer safe
- BLE enabled
Spire’s proprietary sensor measures breathing patterns through the expansion and contraction of your torso and identifies moments of tension, focus or calm. As far as I’m aware, there aren’t any similar product son the market at present.
Other metrics tracked by the Spire health tag include sleep quality, heart rate, heart rate variability, breathing patterns, and stress to provide a complete picture of your health. The tracked stats are then synced and recorded within the Spire Health Tag app which is currently available for iOS devices only with Android compatibility promised in the near future.
The amazing thing is how the Spire health tags run on a single coin cell battery for up to 1.5 hours and can be throw into the washing machine and dryer. Purchasing a pack of 8 would basically mean you got your week’s activity tracking all sorted out with an extra pair to spare.
The health tag rotation system effectively guarantees 24/7 activity tracking as long as you’re wearing your undergarments. And since the wearable is discreet and likely comfortable, it enables sleep tracking easily, an aspect of all day activity tracking which I’m particularly interested in.
