Suunto 3 Fitness just got a facelift. The “fitness” has been dropped, new colour variants and straps are introduced, and it is simply called “Suunto 3” now.
For a start, this is the biggest noticeable difference:
The new Suunto 3 is designed and made in Finland whereas the old Suunto 3 Fitness was designed in Finland but made in China. Country of production aside, both watches sport identical specifications and should work similarly.
The other big difference is the change in watch case material from polyamide to ABS plastic. Not sure about the technical differences between the two materials for wearables use but here’s a page that gives a good brief.
I did a rundown of the specifications of both watches and it appears features are identical right down to the physical size and battery lifespan.
Suunto 3 features
- Adaptive training guidance
- Activity tracking with steps, calories and sleep
- Built-in sport modes for running, swimming, cycling, gym training and many more
- Water resistant to 30 meters, swimming proof
- Mobile assisted GPS
Also, the optical heart rate sensor appear to be Valencell’s. This is an interesting development because the soon-to-be-released Suunto 7 sports non-Valencell optical HR sensors.
Anyway, got to give it to the designers at Suunto, the new colour schemes look absolutely smashing. There is Slate Grey Copper, Granite Red, Moss Grey, Slate Grey, and Pebble White. And that matt bezel lends that hint of classiness to a handsome watch .
The Suunto 3, priced at USD $229 will ship from 31st January 2020 onwards.
Suunto now has 4 watches in their new numbered series with each number catering to a specific group of users.
