TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 – Be Luxuriously Connected – News | GadFit

March 14, 2017

The just announced TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 watch is a collaboration between Intel, Google and the Swiss watch maker. With the lowest priced model starting at $1650 USD and up to $17000 USD for the deluxe box set which includes a COSC-certified chronograph Heuer-02T tourbillon mechanical module, the connected watch, an extra watch strap with a presentation case.

The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is clearly targeted at a niche group, if you get what I mean.

As with current renditions of Android Wear hardware from the likes of LG, Huawei and New Balance, the  TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 will be powered by Android Wear 2.0.

The key selling feature here is really the numerous customisation options to call the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 truly your own. If you’re keen to swap out the straps, buckles or lugs, you may do so at a price of course.

Tag Heuer will also be releasing Swiss mechanical movement modules such as a 3 hands calibre 5 and the Tourbillon Heuer 02-T. And therein lies the crux of the modularity; the accessories of the connected smart watch and the mechanical watches are interchangeable to suit the occasion. The mechanical watches are sold separately of course.TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 customisation

Tag Heuer is probably one of the most aggressive traditional watch makers to pursue connected smart wear. If you recall, the company made a bold promise to owners of their first generation Tag Heuer Connected to allow them to trade in for a mechanical Carrera after 2 years with a top up of $1500.

Unheard of isn’t it? Well the tactic sure worked because Tag Heuer went on to sell an estimated 50,000 units of their first generation connected smart watch in 2016. That’s $75 million in revenue. And the company has plans to triple that in 2017.It’s undeniable the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 time pieces stand out amongst the recent batches of Android Wear. The watch makers may not know the smarts but they sure know how to make a time piece look ridiculously beautiful.

Despite the premium make with materials like titanium, ceramic, rose gold and sapphire glass, the fact remains that the innards of this luxury time piece smart watch will likely be outdated in a year or two. And no, there’s no options to trade up this time.

The watches will be on sale in TAG Heuer boutiques, from a selection of retailers, or available for delivery via the brand’s online webstore from today. Both the connected and mechanical watches come with 2 years warranty.
